Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor- Nationally Certified

My experience as an HCT clinician and Sweetser Affiliate, along with participating in professional development workshops, have helped provide insight and knowledge for my clinical practice. Some of the workshops I have attended are Trauma, DBT and Ethical Dilemmas. I will also continue to incorporate art into my practice. Art can be a great therapeutic tool with the right client. Counseling areas I am focusing on: trauma, anxiety, depression, anger management and family therapy.
Though I have shifted my career path from art to counseling it informs my approach. When working with clients I understand there is no set formula for helping or managing difficulties the client may experience. I use an Integrative Therapeutic approach and combine my counseling education and sensitivity as an artist to see healthy and unhealthy patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are unique to each client. Using the client's skills, strengths and resources available, the session are designed to navigate the best way to create changes the client wants in their life.
Client Centered Approach
Often what seems like a crisis is an opportunity.

In session, through reflective listening, reframing and a new perspective the client finds the answers to where and how they want to move through life. Sometimes that takes time to sift through old narratives and unproductive habits and create new patterns, thoughts, behaviors, and opportunities.

Adolescents and Teens
Emotional and Self Esteem Support
Each child is unique in how they experience the world but at times life's circumstances may get in the way of a child developing appropriate coping strategies to regulate their emotions, behaviors and self image. In session it is important for the adolescent to gain trust and and feel safe, at this point we explore self esteem and work to improve their self image. Afterwards a new perspective of self and coping strategies can be used so the adolescent or teen can learn to better communicate for themself and decrease symptoms of depression and anxiety .

Parent and Teen Therapy
Learning new ways to relate and communicate
It is not easy to parent, and there are times in life when extra support and insight is helpful. In the session, the parent and or parents, along with the child, can interact together with a mediator present. Parents and their child can learn a great deal through communicating and role modeling during session. During therapy, recommendations can be offered that can create new relational patterns between the parent and their child. New coping skills and strategies can also be explored to better manage strong emotions and feelings, which can result in more appropriate ways to communicate and respond during conflict.

Individual Counseling
Working with emotions, thoughts and behaviors
At times an individual may want extra support to talk about and or explore areas in their life that are causing stress, which can lead to anxiety, depression, mood changes, substance use, compulsive behaviors, and anger. If anyone of those emotional or behavioral issues become significant it can affect relationships, education, finances or day to day functioning. In session, the individual will examine some key areas that may be impacting thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that are related to stressful events, experiences, relationships. With that awareness,, the individual can begin to evaluate if those thoughts and behaviors are productive or not. If not, there are ways to shift thoughts and behaviors using a number of different coping strategies, mindfulness and grounding skills. Once coping strategies and skills are developed a new perspective and awareness occur and stressful events will no longer trigger extreme emotions and behaviors .
